Subject:Furniture accidents
35 years ago my son was hurt from furniture. He was okay but the scare and rush to hospital was torment. So-called ice-cream tables - those small pedestal tables on center legs are a problem. My young son put his hands on the edge of this table (heavy round formica top on metal legs) and he decided to hang by picking up his feet. The edge of the table caught him straight over the bridge of his nose. They said an inch lower and he would have died. I'm a friend of Father Otto from high school.

Hello Judy, I just wanted to tell you that you are making a difference. We just had our baby 1 year ago and now she is crawling all around our home. My husband and I have looked at your site and now understand how important it is for us to secure our furniture to the wall. It must be excruciating losing your daughter but just know that you are saving many lives.

I had been on the fence about whether to secure my furniture. I figured there would never be a time when my daughter wasn't nearby, so maybe I didn't need to worry about it. I recently heard a story about a boy that was killed when his bedroom dresser fell on him - he was supposed to be in bed. Then I found your site about Katie and I realized that there will be times when my daughter may be away from me - even for just a second - and that I'd rather be safe than sorry. The small amount of money and time it will involve to keep her safe is worth it - her life is much more valuable! I was crying reading your story because Katie just reminds me of my own baby so much and I know how much I'd miss her if she were taken from me. I immdediately went out to buy furniture anchors and some more items from your checklist. I feel much better now. I've emailed all my friends and relatives. Hopefully they will listen to your story and think of their own children's safety. I will keep your family and Katie in my prayers. God bless you!
